The Birds Sunshine is scheduled to be installed in September 2026

Inspired by components from the Sunshine Harvester Works’ original machinery catalogue, The Birds Sunshine is a series of 5 stone sculptures positioned around the H.V McKay Gardens in Sunshine, Victoria. The sculptures draw on the ingenuity of industrial design and the company’s global reach. Taking cues from Cubist collage, the artists reconfigure forms once used in agricultural machinery into sculptural birdbaths that support local birdlife. Originally forged in steel at the nearby Harvester factory, these industrial forms have been enlarged and recreated in stone. The sculptures are made from basalt and granite. Basalt, formed through ancient volcanic eruptions, has shaped life on Wurundjeri Country for millions of years. The granite is sourced from Leanganook/Liyanganyuk (His Teeth) and Larni balam balam (Home of the Butterflies), a significant place within Dja Dja Wurrung Djandak.
